Castle View is open at the following times:-

Thursday	8.00am - 12 noon	closed
Friday	8.00am - 12 noon	3.00 - 5.30pm

Both surgeries are closed Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.

What we do

Our GP Out-of-Hours service is available when your own GP surgery is closed. Telephone 111

The service is for urgent care only – not for routine medical matters, when you would normally be seen by your own GP.

If you feel unwell when your GP surgery is closed and feel you need to see a GP urgently, you should phone your GP Surgery where you will be re-directed to the GP Out-of-Hours service.

If the patient has a potentially life threatening illness, for example, chest pain, difficulty in breathing or severe bleeding please dial 999 immediately.

Summary

If the Emergency Nurse Practitioner is unable to manage your injury, you will be transferred/redirected to the Royal Gwent Hospital A&E Department. As of 17th November 2020, any patient requiring A&E will be directed/transferred to the Grange University Hospital. The Minor Injury Unit will also become 24 hours, 7 days a week access from the 17.11.20.

A&E (Emergency Unit) - Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (nhs.wales)

If you need to access the Emergency Unit and it’s not life or limb threatening, then you must Phone First. By calling CAV 24/7 on 0300 10 20 247 a call handler will take the call and make an initial assessment. You will get a call back from a clinician within 20 minutes if urgent or 1 hour if less urgent. If needed, you will be given an appointment within the Emergency Unit, an Urgent Care Centre, or other appropriate healthcare facility. Find out more about the CAV 24/7 system.

Minor Injury Units (MIU)

These units treat people with minor injuries only. MIUs are located at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon and Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda These units are unable to deal with primary care problems, chronic conditions or acutely ill patients.

Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda 09:00 – 16:30hrs Mon-Fri (excluding Bank Holidays)

Ysbyty Cwm Cynon 09:00 – 16:30hrs Mon-Fri (excluding Bank Holidays)

Emergency Departments (A&E)

A&E Departments are located at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil & Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant.

A&E Departments are designed to treat emergencies. An emergency is a a serious or life-threaening condition.

You should always call 999 in a life threatening emergency – if you think their life is at risk.

The Common Ailments Scheme is available in all local 125 community pharmacies in the ABMU area – Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend. You have to register with the pharmacy to use the scheme, but the process only takes a few minutes. Consultations are carried out in a private room and if the pharmacist decides you still need to see a doctor, they will refer you.

The 26 ailments covered by the Common Ailments Scheme are: acne, athlete’s foot, back pain, chickenpox, cold sores, colic, conjunctivitis, constipation, diarrhoea, dry eyes, dermatitis, haemorrhoids, hay fever, head lice, indigestion, ingrowing toenails, ringworm, mouth ulcers, nappy rash, oral thrush, scabies, sore throat/tonsillitis, teething, threadworms, vaginal thrush, and verrucae.
